Who we are
I'm a faith-rooted organizer, grassroots community developer, writer, and theologian who’s put down roots in Boston (Massachusett, Nipmunc, and Wampanoag land) by way of Colorado and California. I grew up a conservative evangelical in rural Texas along the Gulf Coast amidst the afterlives of slavery. I’m interested in how we operationalize justice: how we embody the outpouring of Trinitarian love for liberation and communion. I try to think theologically, whatever that means, about all the relationships, socioeconomic and personal and ideological and ecological, that make up life in a community wrapped up in a complex society embedded in creation. This is the dialogue and the kinds of encounters we’re pursuing here.
I’ve been fortunate to be part of some pretty cool things like:
co-founding a democratically run organization that builds tiny home villages and other alternative communities with and for folks on the streets in Denver
co-founding a group purchasing cooperative in Boston that organizes community institutions to leverage their collective spending to close the racial wealth gap
co-chairing a state ballot initiative in Colorado that ended payday lending
co-creating and leading a program that helped churches build affordable housing on their properties (like this one!)
organizing and facilitating a coalition that fought to end the criminalization of homelessness in Denver
serving as the Director of Economic Justice & Deputy Director at the Interfaith Alliance of Colorado
working on lots of housing justice, economic justice, and racial justice policy campaigns
As of the Fall of 2024, I’m full-time pursuing a PhD in Theology at Boston University (where I’m working on the stuff I described here). I’m a grad workers union rep and on the board of a wonderful organization called common cathedral. I’m “Dada” to two incredible kids and partner to an amazing woman from Boston who’s responsible for bringing me out here. I probably wish I was on a trail in some mountain range right now. There’s a decent chance that if the weather’s nice, I’m lounging on my front porch with a coffee or beer reading a book.
I’ve written for Red Letter Christians, Macrina Mag, Geez Magazine, the Journal of Urban Missions, Directions Journal, Reading Religion and more.
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you’ll join this stumbling journey toward solidarity.
